Factorylite Insulated Roof & Cladding SystemsFactorylite flexible bulk density insulation is used throughout the African construction industry as an element to construct insulated metal roofing and cladding systems. The glass wool factorylite insulation is generally installed compressed between straining wires / steel purlins and the roof and cladding sheeting. The factorylite insulation is manufactured with a range of differing facings to provide an array of aesthetic finishes. Factorylite glass wool insulation it is classed as a non-combustible insulation. How does factorylite glass wool insulation actually work? The fibres, that are bound together with an inert binder, create air voids where air is trapped. The voids ‘trap’ air and slow down convection thereby reducing heat loss and gain. Heat passing through the fibres and the isolated air pockets therefore can’t penetrate very far as the material itself does not conduct heat very well. It is the air trapped between the fibres that provides the ability for the glass fibre to behave as an insulator and not the actual fibres themselves. If the insulation is compressed then the air is squeezed out from within the insulation, and the ability of the glass wool insulation to insulate is dramatically reduced. |

Factorylite Insulated Roof and Cladding Systems Features and Benefits:
- Excellent thermal and acoustic properties if installed uncompressed
- Long product life as factorylite will not readily age
- Helps to prevent condensation
- Supplied in rolls and is compression packed to reduce volume and optimise transport and storage
- Suitable for high humidity applications
- Made to size to reduce wastage
Generally the R-Value’s stated in the manufacturers guides are in an uncompressed state.
Tests have proved that compared to the stated uncompressed insulation R-Values when compressed between roof sheets and purlins at 1.8 metre centres, the thermal performance (R-Value) can be decreased by up to 40%.

Factorylite Thermal Performance (R-Value)
Factorylite flexible bulk density insulation can be supplied and installed in a range of differing thickness to provide a array of thermal performances, however the use of thick insulation between pierced and secret fix roof sheeting can lead to structural problems with the roof sheeting.
Factorylite Flexible Insulation for Roof & Wall Applications:
- Industrial roof insulation over purlin installations.
- Between purlin installation (existing buildings)
- Factorylite insulation should not be installed in applications where the facing material is exposed to direct or indirect ultraviolet radiation.
